Amorim intent on “sealing a reunion” as United plot January move for Sporting’s £70m defensive monster – report

In an effort to reduce their payroll, Manchester United spent the last few days of the summer transfer window selling off its high-profile failures.

On the day of the deadline, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Rasmus Hojlund all left Old Trafford. The sole newcomer at this time was Senne Lammens, a goalkeeper from Belgium.

According to a report, United has begun working on their January transfer plans after easing their financial concerns.

Manchester United target Zeno Debast

According to Givemesport, United have “wasted no time pinpointing possible additions” to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

It is understood the Red Devils have included Sporting CP defender Zeno Debast on their shortlist. The report states: “United are planning to keep tabs on Debast before potentially making a move to lure him away from Sporting.”

The Belgian defender is known for his strong aerial presence and composure in possession, making him an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s back three system at Old Trafford.

In an effort to make United’s defense a nightmare for attackers to play against, Amorim is “open to sealing a reunion” after acquiring the center-back from Anderlecht in 2024.

Although United will send scouts to watch Debast’s performances this season, the Portuguese strategist is aware of his potential.

The 21-year-old has a £70 million release clause in his Lisbon deal. Sporting reportedly won’t entertain the idea of a January transaction at a reduced price.

Manchester United could soon be compelled to sign a new defender

In the summer, United mostly concentrated on improving their assault. They could have to deal with their defense sooner rather than later, though.

According to a recent report from The People’s Person, Saudi Arabia is showing interest in Harry Maguire. The seasoned defender is now in the last 12 months of his Old Trafford contract. At the end of the season, he will reportedly think about moving to the SPL.

Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans also left United at the end of the previous season. Now, the Swede is a member of Aston Villa.
