In a close victory over the Cottagers in August 2024, Garnacho came off the bench to help fellow substitute Joshua Zirkzee score the game’s lone goal. But instead of going directly home to celebrate his success, the South American took use of his own time to work harder after the last whistle.
According to the Daily Mail at the time, Garnacho went to Manchester’s NAS Elite Sports Performance Centre after Fulham’s victory. In addition to providing physiotherapy, osteopathic treatment, strength and conditioning, nutritional support, phlebotomy, IV drip therapy, and vitamin shots, the clinic is a favorite among other Premier League players.
The center has served former United teammates Kobbie Mainoo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Sofyan Amrabat. Its services have also been utilized by former Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen and Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo.
And knowing that his new hire is prepared to work so hard to maximize his career may impress Maresca. After a Week 1 victory, some might be happy to rejoice, but Garnacho’s top goal was to make sure he recovered as best he could after the game.
Given that he missed an open goal during the game against Fulham last year, the prospect might have been a little frustrated with his performance. Even though he played a significant part in the outcome, that may have been on his mind before he set up Zirkzee for the deciding.
In west London, Garnacho’s new boss will be looking to foster that aspect of his personality. Additionally, it appears that the winger is making every effort to establish himself under Maresca.
Following his first training session as a Chelsea player, Garnacho’s comments indicated just how hard he was working to stand out. “Can’t move my legs now man,” he told a member of Chelsea’s media team. “I sprinted in the last one.”
Lionel Scaloni didn’t select Garnacho in his latest Argentina squad, meaning he has had extra time to train with his new team over the international break. Maresca’s men return to action on Saturday when they’ll make the short trip to Brentford for a west London derby.
