Although the Premier League transfer window has closed, Manchester United continues to facilitate additional player departures.
The Red Devils are restricted from acquiring new players; however, they can finalize outgoing transfers if the transfer windows in other countries remain open. The Turkish Super Lig transfer window is active until Friday.
Andre Onana is set to join the league after finalizing a season-long loan with Trabzonspor, where he has also increased his salary. Tyrell Malacia is similarly expected to transfer to Turkey, as reports indicate that an agreement has been reached for the left-back to join Eyupspor.
A potential transfer to La Liga’s Elche fell through on deadline day, leaving Malacia in a state of uncertainty as he is considered surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim.
Nevertheless, a third player from United may be heading to Turkey before the transfer window closes on Friday.
Sam Mather has suitors in Turkey
United is eager to transfer Sam Mather, and as reported by the Manchester Evening News, he has attracted interest from clubs in Turkey. This indicates that the Red Devils may finalize the sale of a third player to a Turkish club before the end of the week.
The 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself and secure a position in the senior team at Old Trafford. While teams in Germany and Sweden have expressed interest, any potential transfers to those countries will not materialize until January.
United is seeking a permanent departure for the Salford-born winger; however, according to the MEN report, they would consider a loan deal that includes an obligation to purchase.
Mather renewed his contract with the Red Devils last summer after participating in their pre-season tour in the United States. However, Amorim did not include him in this summer’s trip to the United States.
Although the player is capable of playing on the wing, he is also well-suited for the number 10 position. With the recent signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, his chances of first-team action have become more limited. He spent part of the previous season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, where he made only two substitute appearances.
Andre Onana to complete move to Turkey on Thursday
Onana has been representing Cameroon on the international stage and is scheduled to travel to Turkey on Thursday to finalize his transfer to Trabzonspor. He has been considered excess to requirements at the Red Devils after the acquisition of Senne Lammens from Antwerp for £21.7 million.
The £47.5 million transfer from Inter Milan had already seen him lose his position to Altay Bayindir, and with Tom Heaton signing a new contract to remain for an additional year, United found themselves without the need for four senior goalkeepers.
There is optimism at United that Onana will rediscover his form in Turkey, which would enable the Red Devils to sell him for a reasonable fee in the summer of 2026. Having invested nearly £50 million in his acquisition just two years prior, United will be eager to recover as much of that investment as possible.
