£70m Man Utd star ‘would immediately leave for Real Madrid’ after ‘enquiry’ made ‘to Xabi Alonso’s delight’ – report

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is eager to join Real Madrid during the January transfer window, as reported by a source in Spain. However, there are two significant hurdles that could impede a potential agreement between the Red Devils and Los Blancos.

Mainoo expressed a desire to depart from Man Utd on loan during the summer transfer window to secure regular playing time and enhance his chances of being selected for the England squad for the 2026 World Cup finals. Real Madrid was among the clubs that showed interest in Mainoo’s circumstances at Old Trafford, with Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso reportedly keen on facilitating a transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur also expressed interest in acquiring Mainoo during the summer and made an inquiry, but Man Utd rejected those overtures, as noted by TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Dean Jones, on August 29.

Man Utd persuaded Mainoo to remain at Old Trafford, although the 20-year-old still nurtures aspirations of departing the Premier League giants in the January transfer window.

TEAMtalk reports that Man Utd is fully supporting Mainoo and intends to assist him in revitalizing his career at Old Trafford, yet rumors linking the England international to Real Madrid continue to circulate.

As per Defensa Central, Mainoo is ‘continuing to lobby’ Man Utd to permit his departure in January if manager Ruben Amorim does not utilize him consistently in the upcoming weeks and months.

Mainoo has only played 45 minutes in the Premier League and participated in Man Utd’s Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.

The Real Madrid-focused news outlet has indicated that Madrid president Florentino Perez remains ‘attentive’ to Mainoo’s situation.

Los Blancos have already ‘inquired’ about a possible deal for Mainoo, whose ‘desire is to wear the white shirt’ and who ‘would leave for Madrid immediately.’

‘To Xabi Alonso’s delight,’ Madrid is contemplating a move for Mainoo in the January transfer window, according to the report, but there are two obstacles.

Two conditions for Kobbie Mainoo to join Real Madrid

As reported by Defensa Central, the primary condition for Mainoo’s transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid during the January transfer window would be a significant injury to one of their current midfielders.

The second consideration involves the future of Dani Ceballos, who declined the opportunity to transfer to Marseille from Madrid during the summer transfer window.

Ceballos does not play a significant role in the plans of Madrid’s manager, Xabi Alonso, and may be sold during the mid-season.

The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder has only participated for 71 minutes in the FIFA Club World Cup and has spent a mere 22 minutes on the field across three LaLiga appearances this season.

Another aspect that Defensa Central does not address, yet is likely the most crucial regarding Mainoo’s future, is Manchester United’s position.

The Premier League club holds high expectations for Mainoo and is reluctant to part ways with the 20-year-old, who has progressed through the club’s youth academy.

The Guardian indicated in March that Manchester United values Mainoo at £70 million (€81 million, $95 million), a figure that is expected to remain stable, as the midfielder is contracted with the Red Devils until the summer of 2027, with an option for the club to extend it by an additional year.

In the latest news concerning Real Madrid: Micky van de Ven’s situation and the aspirations of a Newcastle winger.
Real Madrid has been informed of Tottenham Hotspur’s intentions regarding Micky van de Ven, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also expressing interest in the Netherlands international central defender.

Manchester United is facing competition from Real Madrid for a prominent Premier League midfielder that manager Ruben Amorim has been monitoring for an extended period.

A winger from Newcastle United has publicly expressed his ambition to play for Real Madrid, although he is also open to a move to Barcelona during his career.
