United fighting to keep unsettled star, sit-down planned to persuade him to stay – Fabrizio Romano

The main cause of Manchester United’s poor 1-1 draw with Fulham over the weekend was Ruben Amorim’s ridiculous substitute calls in the second half.

It was hard to understand the decisions to substitute Diogo Dalot for Amad, whose error ultimately resulted in the Cottagers’ equalizer, and to bring on Manuel Ugarte despite his lackluster appearance against Arsenal the previous week.

The decision to start two center-halves rather than Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee, who were both on the bench, was even more concerning.

The Portuguese strategist has asserted that his absence is tactical in nature, however the Englishman is understandably frustrated about his lack of playing time.

Mainoo unhappy with lack of minutes

The Carrington wonderkid hasn’t played in either of the two games so far since he is viewed as Bruno Fernandes’ backup rather than a defensive midfielder.

Despite this justification, there are still rumors that the 20-year-old is prepared to leave his boyhood club, and the Red Devils are even considering a replacement if this turns out to be the case.

Fabrizio Romano has attempted to allay the fan base’s concerns, though, by asserting that no firm offers have been made and that there aren’t any discussions about the England international leaving at this time.

It is well known that Kobbie Mainoo is yet to agree a new deal, and lots of clubs are circling, which is why INEOS will be sitting down with him in the coming days to sort out his future.

United hope to sit and sort out things with Mainoo

“Kobbie Mainoo is not happy to sit on the bench and play zero minutes. But I can guarantee that there are no negotiations, no bids, and no active talks for him to leave Man Utd.

“The player is disappointed. It’s not an easy situation to handle. Manchester United still hope to control the situation. They hope to speak to Mainoo, to explain to him the situation around him.

“Let’s wait for the next steps, but for now, the situation is quite calm around Mainoo.”

Hopefully, it will be possible to chart out a reasonable path forward. If a domestic celebrity like him were to be let go in this manner, it would be really regrettable.

In the EFL Cup second round on Wednesday, the 20-year-old is probably going to make his first start of the season against Grimsby Town.
