Mads Hermansen may have endured a pretty dreadful start to life at West Ham but the prospect of Andre Onana arriving at the London Stadium from Manchester United would still come as a massive surprise.
Hammers News can confirm, through chief football correspondent Graeme Bailey, that Graham Potter’s team has been given the opportunity to add another goalkeeper who has drawn criticism for some high-profile errors, four days after Hermansen was thrashed five times by a rampaging Chelsea in just forty-three miserable minutes at the London Stadium.
Amadou Onana of Aston Villa is a midfield in desperate need of extra muscle and athleticism, so many West Ham United fans would be thrilled to recruit him. However, few would have thought that the Belgian’s Old Trafford counterpart would be closing the East London transfer window.
Speaking to United in Focus, Bailey discloses that in regards to a loan agreement for Ruben Amorim’s £47 million Cameroon international, intermediaries have been in active negotiations with several teams.
West Ham is one among the teams that was informed of Onana’s availability.
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana offered to West Ham
In both of Manchester United’s Premier League games thus far, Onana has not been included in Ruben Amorim’s starting lineup. Despite playing a part in Arsenal’s disastrous winning goal at Old Trafford the previous week, Altay Bayindir maintained his position during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham.
Senne Lammens, a gloveman for Royal Antwerp, is now a target for the Red Devils. As a result, Onana can drop from the top spot to third in a few months.
With a loan agreement imminent, Bailey reveals, “Onana is now unhappy at this current situation and he is ready to look at options.” There are others, but West Ham might be one of them.
“With Lammens joining the team, a change of leadership at United may be imminent. Although it was never truly anticipated that Lammens would win the top spot, that is how it might turn out.
It is said that Onana is “actively considering his options.” After being astonished by Bayindir’s ongoing engagement at Craven Cottage, the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper acknowledges that his future with the Red Devils has changed.
Bailey goes on to say that even though West Ham spent £18 million just two and a half weeks ago to bring Mads Hermansen to the London Stadium, the team is already “considering alternatives” in goal.
Rob Green defends Mads Hermansen after Chelsea debacle
After Inter lost to a treble-winning Manchester City team in the Champions League final, Onana joined Man United in 2023. at his two seasons at the North West, the 29-year-old has made a number of errors, but Graham Potter might be drawn to Onana’s reputation as a ball player with unwavering confidence.
Former West Ham goalie Rob Green is supporting Mads Hermansen to bounce back after giving up eight goals in his opening two games, raising doubts about the man whose spot in goal at the London Stadium is already in doubt.
After missing the majority of preseason, Green, who played with the Hammers from 2006 to 2012, believes Hermansen shouldn’t be evaluated so quickly.
“At the moment, the goalkeeper is in with [those overall problems] defensively,” Green said on Sky Sports.
“He played one game in pre-season, Hermansen. He hasn’t played since April [due to injury]. He’s been thrown in and it’s been a lot to ask of him.”
