Sources: Man United make new Ruben Amorim sack decision after ‘embarrassment’

According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Ruben Amorim’s employment at Manchester United is secure after the team recovered from their “embarrassing” loss to Grimsby.

Senior journalist Pete O’Rourke discussed what insiders have told him on the uncertainties surrounding Amorim’s future at Old Trafford in an interview with the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

After an extremely difficult week, Bruno Fernandes’ penalty in the 97th minute rescued face for Manchester United against Burnley, delivering a last-ditch 3-2 victory but nonetheless left Amorim looking “miserable” in the dugout.

Many commentators thought Amorim’s career was in jeopardy after the Red Devils’ heartbreaking Carabao Cup loss to League Two’s Grimsby Town on Wednesday, but the Portuguese manager is safe for the time being.

Despite their “embarrassment” at Blundell Park and their need for a penalty kick in the last seconds to defeat Burnley, Man United will not respond hastily to Amorim’s future, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.

The Red Devils’ management still believes that Amorim can lead the team to success, according to Football Insider sources, but they also said that United’s thrilling victory over Burnley has relieved some of the “growing pressure” on him.

Ruben Amorim ‘safe for now’ after Man United embarrassment

If Burnley had left Old Trafford with three points, Paul Merson had predicted that Amorim would step down as manager of Manchester United. However, Fernandes’ penalty stopped the Portuguese from making that prediction.

O’Rourke said on the new Inside Track podcast that although Amorim is facing “increasing pressure” at Manchester United, the club’s management does not currently have any plans to replace the 40-year-old.

“Pressure is there as a Man United manager – there’s always pressure on you, no doubt about that”, he told Football Insider.

“Obviously, results will increase that pressure and that defeat to Grimsby was a real embarrassment for the club in that respect.

“That obviously brings pressure itself because of the defeat and the performance, but I don’t think there’ll be any knee-jerk reactions from Manchester United on Ruben Amorim.

“They see him as the man to take the club forward. If results don’t improve, like any manager, your job is going to come under threat.

“It’s a big period coming up for Ruben Amorim, it was a big game against BurnleyThen there’s the international break, and they go into that break with a victory to ease any growing pressure on him.”

Kobbie Mainoo saga shines another bad light on Ruben Amorim

Even though Man United’s 3-2 victory over recently promoted Burnley is hardly a declaration of intent, their first three points of the new campaign may temporarily lessen the pressure on Amorim.

On August 29, however, Football Insider reported that Kobbie Mainoo believes Amorim is “moving him out” of Old Trafford after he claimed the young player was vying for Fernandes’ spot.

Mainoo’s departure from United in the last few days of the summer transfer window would put a stop to their long-standing practice of starting academy players, and if Amorim is the manager to break that streak, his status with supporters may suffer greatly.
