With just over 24 hours left in the transfer window, Manchester United may yet add to their midfield, according to sources. Red Devils executives are reportedly in Germany to finalize a deal for Stuttgart enforcer Angelo Stiller.
Since they successfully signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, United has been searching for a new star to play in the middle of the park. Ruben Amorim is particularly interested in finding Bruno Fernandes a new midfield partner. Carlos Baleba of Brighton was considered their primary target, but they have since changed their minds after being priced out of a deal for the Seagulls star.
Sky Sports: United Delegation ‘in Advanced Talks’ for Angelo Stiller
As a result, other targets are now being pursued in an effort to negotiate a better deal; Stiller, who has shown promise in the Bundesliga, has come into their sights.
Given Mason Mount’s injury sustained against Burnley on Saturday and the uncertainty surrounding the future of homegrown midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who has requested to go out on loan, a United delegation is reportedly in Stuttgart to finalize a move for the midfield player, according to a report by Sacha Tavolieri of Sky Sports.
In order to strengthen their goalkeeping depth, United may be able to bring in another player before Monday’s 19:00 transfer deadline in the form of either Aston Villa legend Emiliano Martinez or Royal Antwerp sensation Senne Lammens. Talks are “advanced” with the German midfielder, and he is “expecting a deal to be done.”
Born in Munich, Stiller attended Bayern’s development academy from the age of nine and played for the Bundesliga powerhouses three times before leaving for Hoffenheim in January 2021. He relocated to Stuttgart in August 2023 and has since established himself as a vital member of the MHPArena team, becoming a frequent fixture in the Bundesliga.
Stiller’s skill set would aim to make up for Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro’s lack of defensive contributions at Old Trafford in recent months, as well as the fact that he is still young and has potential to develop.
In recent games, Amorim has chosen the Brazilian, but because he is already 33, a long-term solution will be required, and Ugarte hasn’t proven himself in the north-west this year. Therefore, should United be able to close a deal, Stiller would take his place.
