Alejandro Garnacho has broken his silence after reportedly turning down an offer to leave Manchester United.
Since Ruben Amorim essentially ended the Argentina international’s United career by telling him, “You better pray that you can find a club to sign you,” and removing the winger from his final matchday squad against Aston Villa, the Argentina international has been surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
While efforts are being made to find a solution for Garnacho and secure him a move away, he has been training apart from the rest of the group.
Similar to Jadon Sancho, this has proven difficult, and as the summer transfer window draws to a close, Garnacho is still on United’s roster.
However, Garnacho rejected a “new approach” from the Saudi Pro League, according to Fabrizio Romano, indicating that there have been many interested parties.
Romano emphasized that Garnacho is holding out for Chelsea and that “all parties” anticipate the deal to go through, despite the allure of the prospect of earning a sizable salary while playing in the same league as his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Garnacho had been quiet about his predicament the entire time, but on Tuesday he shared a kind of cryptic hint on his Instagram account.
The former Atletico Madrid player shared a photo of himself in his car with his pinky finger up and the sun roof open.
Latest on Chelsea’s pursuit of Garnacho
According to Romano, “the feeling in the last 24-48 hours is on Alejandro Garnacho clearly going to Chelsea” and his team is still “optimistic” that the desired move will occur, he added in a video for his YouTube channel.
After further discussion, it seems that there is still some work to be done between the two teams, even though the negotiations are at a fairly advanced point.
The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claims that United is want £50 million for Garnacho, while Chelsea is willing to pay a set sum of £35 million.
The Red Devils saw their former academy player Anthony Elanga join Newcastle from Nottingham Forest for £55 million, while Chelsea receive £52 million from Arsenal for Noni Madueke.
Chelsea also have interest in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez but need to shift more players, with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku leading candidates to leave before the transfer window closes.
