JUST IN: New goalkeeper arrives, Gyokeres deal, Mbeumo signed”, latest on Man United signings – as Ruben Amorim plans to seal Four major signings before preseason starts

Transfer News: New Goalkeeper Incoming, Gyökeres Deal Heating Up, and Mbeumo Signed – Amorim Targets Four Key Additions Before Preseason

Manchester United are entering the second phase of the summer transfer window with intensity, as new head coach Rúben Amorim looks to finalise four major signings before the squad regroups for preseason training.

One of the top priorities? A new first-choice goalkeeper, and the club appears to have now acted decisively on that front. United Open Talks with Emi Martinez

According to reports from ESPN Argentina, United have officially opened talks with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine shot-stopper has long been on the Red Devils’ radar, and his visible emotions after Villa’s final home game last season only fueled speculation of an imminent exit.

While Andre Onana arrived last summer with high expectations, a season filled with errors — including in key Premier League and European fixtures — has seemingly convinced the United hierarchy that a more reliable presence between the posts is essential.

Despite no European football on offer at Old Trafford next season, Martinez is said to be open to the move, with staying in England reportedly his top preference. Interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray was also tabled, but Martinez appears to be waiting for United’s call — and now, it seems that call has finally come.

The pursuit of Martinez may have intensified following reports that Marc-André ter Stegen, previously linked with a shock switch from Barcelona, will remain at the Nou Camp after deciding against terminating his contract. Mbeumo Signed, Gyökeres Next?

Meanwhile, United have already completed a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who brings pace, creativity, and versatility to the front line. The Cameroonian forward, who impressed with his consistent performances last season, is seen as a direct upgrade in wide areas, with the potential to also play centrally if needed.

Attention now shifts to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, one of Europe’s most coveted number nines. Discussions between United and the player’s camp are said to be progressing steadily, with Amorim pushing strongly for the Swedish forward — whom he coached during their time together in Lisbon.

Gyökeres, who scored 33 goals last season for Sporting, is viewed as the ideal striker to lead United’s new-look frontline. However, Sporting’s steep valuation — hovering around €90 million — remains a sticking point.

Amorim’s Vision for United

With Matheus Cunha already signed and Mbeumo through the door, Amorim has wasted no time putting his stamp on this United team. The club’s embarrassing 15th-place finish last season left fans demanding a complete overhaul, and the new manager is determined to deliver.

The plan is clear: four key signings before preseason begins. With Cunha, Mbeumo, and potentially Martinez already in the bag or close to it, United are now laser-focused on closing a deal for a striker — with Gyökeres firmly at the top of the list.

Amorim also remains open to signing another central midfielder should the right opportunity arise, with United still lacking depth and balance in that department. What’s Next?

With preseason fixtures fast approaching and training camps being finalized, United will look to complete all major deals in the coming weeks. The mood at Carrington is shifting — optimism is building — and fans can expect a very different team when the 2025/26 season kicks off.

Whether Amorim can rebuild this squad into a title-challenging force remains to be seen, but if these signings are anything to go by, Manchester United mean business.
