Not Osimhen: Man Utd eyeing move to sign ‘unbelievable’ £411,000-a-week striker – journalist

Manchester United could target a surprise move for former Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.

The Red Devils are considering their striker options on the market, and while Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres remains their priority target, a move for Mitrovic could come into contention later in the window.

Jacobs claims the Serbian forward is expected to depart Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal after the Club World Cup, if they can bring in a new ‘box-office’ striker to replace him.

Al-Hilal eyed both Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko as potential targets earlier this month, but were snubbed by the two forwards, who are also believed to be of interest to United.

Man United Eyeing Aleksandar Mitrovic

He could depart the Saudi Pro League this summer

Jacobs, speaking on The United Stand, revealed that Mitrovic’s situation is unlikely to develop anytime soon, but Man United could add him to their list of striker options later in the window:

“I think Manchester United are biding their time. And then from there, who else might they add to the list?

“You have Aleksandar Mitrovic, that I’ve mentioned before, who is expected to leave Al-Hilal if they can find a box-office striker.

But now I think they’ll take Mitrovic to the Club World Cup instead, because they haven’t got Victor Osimhen. They tried for Benjamin Sesko, the player didn’t want to move to Saudi.

“So Hilal probably won’t add a box-office number nine. They’ll try and get a loan in for N’Golo Kante.

“They didn’t get Bruno Fernandes, remember, and it might mean we have to wait on the Mitrovic situation. He’s also got a high wage.”

Mitrovic has been prolific since his move to Al-Hilal from Fulham in 2023, scoring 68 goals and providing 15 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions.

The ‘unbelievable’ Serbia international is one of the best-paid strikers in the world, with reports claiming his wages in Saudi Arabia stand at £411,000 per week.

Al-Hilal are believed to value Mitrovic at around £40m, which could make him a cheaper alternative to United’s top target Gyokeres.

Sporting are believed to be demanding a fee of around €80m (£67m) for the Sweden international this summer.
