Manchester United fans may have been intrigued to see Sir Alex Ferguson at the PSG vs Arsenal game this week.
Although Alex Ferguson is no longer affiliated with Manchester United, he maintains strong connections to the club, making his presence in Paris noteworthy.
Subsequently, rumors surfaced suggesting that Ferguson met with Luis Campos at a hotel in Paris prior to the match. This sparked a flurry of speculation. Manchester United continues to undergo internal restructuring, and following Dan Ashworth’s departure last year, the club may still be in need of a new Sporting Director.
Many have speculated whether Campos could be headed to Old Trafford after this encounter, especially since he has recently been associated with Manchester United.
However, according to Duncan Castles on The Transfers Podcast, this meeting was unrelated to any potential position at Manchester United and was merely a casual discussion about football.
Why Alex Ferguson met Luis Campos this week
Castles explained that Alex Ferguson had a meeting with Luis Campos this week.
The journalist noted that the purpose of their meeting was to engage in a general discussion about football, rather than to deliberate on a potential transfer to Manchester United.
Both Campos and Ferguson are esteemed figures in the football world, making their conversation a fascinating event to witness.
“Interestingly, and this is one of the things that prompted questions this week, Campos met Alex Ferguson in a Paris hotel ahead of the Champions League semi-final with discussions on social media that he was perhaps being lined up by United to come in and replace their cadre of Sporting Directors,” Castles said.
“My guarantee is that it had nothing to do with working at Manchester United. Ferguson, of course, has been sacked by Jim Ratcliffe this season, is no longer an employee.
“Apparently, the discussion was a general conversation about football. No talks about Campos moving to Manchester United.”
Luis Campos’ best signings
Luis Campos is a highly sought-after figure in football, and it is clear why fans of United were enthusiastic about this meeting. Campos is recognized as one of the foremost recruitment experts in the sport today, which explains the previous links to Arsenal before they opted for Andrea Berta.
A review of Campos’ most notable signings illustrates why he is regarded as an exceptional Sporting Director. Regrettably, it seems that United is not currently positioned to secure Campos for the club; however, should they decide to pursue this opportunity in the future, a solid rapport with Alex Ferguson would undoubtedly enhance the Red Devils’ prospects.
The direction United will take following Dan Ashworth’s departure remains uncertain, but indications suggest that Campos is unlikely to be heading to Old Trafford in the near term.
