Jadon Sancho could be on the move in the summer but in a surprise switch from Manchester United.
Despite appearing to reconcile with Erik ten Hag and returning to Manchester United for the 2024 pre-season following a period at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho was loaned to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
In total, he has made 39 appearances and scored four goals for Enzo Maresca’s team, which currently sits fifth in the Premier League and is competing in the Conference League final. However, the England international has not consistently impressed at Chelsea, who reportedly have a commitment to acquire him permanently for £20 million, with an additional £5 million contingent on performance-related incentives.
It was previously reported that Chelsea would need to activate this clause if they finished within the top 14, a condition that has since been confirmed. Nevertheless, there is reported interest in Sancho from other clubs.
According to the Turkish publication Fanatik, Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, is interested in the 25-year-old, with club president Ali Koc recently indicating that the team intends to enhance their attacking options in the upcoming season.
Fenerbahce, currently second in the Turkish Super Lig, had shown interest in Sancho during the summer prior to his move to Chelsea.
They have competition for his signing, though, with former club Dortmund thought to be looking at bringing him back for a third time and Bayer Leverkusen also in the mix as they try to replace star Florian Wirtz should he go as predicted.
Chelsea have special Jadon Sancho agreement with Manchester United
Chelsea is reportedly opposed to the permanent signing of Sancho, despite having an obligation to do so. Nevertheless, there appears to be a loophole that the club intends to utilize.
According to The Mirror, the west London team is prepared to pay a penalty fee of £5 million to Manchester United to forgo their obligation to permanently acquire Sancho, a deal that David Ornstein initially reported in March.
In addition to this fee, United is seeking just under £20 million to transfer Sancho, who was purchased for £73 million in 2021.
