Manchester United continue to express strong interest in signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. However, the club’s financial constraints and European qualification status are significant factors that could influence the potential transfer.
Gyökeres has had an exceptional season, scoring 52 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. His prolific form has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea. United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, previously coached Gyökeres at Sporting CP and is keen on a reunion.Romano notes that while Manchester United remain interested, their ability to secure Gyökeres’s signature will depend on their Financial Fair Play (FFP) budget and whether they qualify for European competitions. Sporting CP’s original release clause for the striker is around €100 million, but due to a verbal agreement acknowledging Gyökeres’s loyalty, the club is reportedly willing to accept a lower fee in the range of €65–70 million. In addition to Gyökeres, United are exploring other attacking options, including Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The club’s transfer activities are likely to be influenced by their performance in the upcoming Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, which could secure them a spot in the UEFA Champions League and provide a significant financial boost
As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United’s pursuit of Gyökeres will depend on multiple factors, including financial considerations and European competition qualification.
