Manchester United remain keen on signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town at the end of the season, and they are in pole position to sign him.
They want to sign the 22-year-old striker even though they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final and did not qualify for the Champions League the following season.
They are now ahead of Chelsea in the race, according to a Football Insider report. Liam Delap is coveted by Chelsea.
The 22-year-old striker is also a target for the Blues. Despite Ipswich’s general difficulties, Delap has scored 12 goals and performed admirably for the team. With the correct coaching, he has the potential to become a top-tier player and is highly regarded in the Premier League.
The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea might blow him away if he wants to compete at a high level.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has labelled him as a “fantastic player” earlier this season, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea come forward with an offer to sign him. They need an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson. The 22-year-old has the attributes to develop into a complete forward, and Delap could sort out Chelsea’s attacking unit for the foreseeable future.
As for Manchester United. They need an upgrade on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. Both players have been underwhelming since the move to Old Trafford, and Manchester United need better options at their disposal if they are serious about fighting for trophies
The 22-year-old striker will not want to compete in the Championship next season, and he will want to stay in the top flight. It remains to be seen where he ends up. Both clubs could provide him with the platform to compete at a high level and fight for trophies in future. They are among the biggest clubs in the world, and convincing the player to join Chelsea or Manchester United should not be difficult
