‘I was told’: Journalist shares how much Man Utd will spend this summer if they win the Europa League

Manchester United are in a bizarre situation right now.

Despite currently ranking 16th in the Premier League, Manchester United is on the brink of securing a place in next season’s Champions League.

They are set to compete against Tottenham in the Europa League final next week, with the victor gaining entry to the elite level of European football. Manchester United is expected to triumph over Spurs, and a victory would not only bring home a trophy and qualification but also significant financial rewards in terms of prize money and broadcasting income.

This outcome will inevitably influence United’s summer transfer budget, and as noted by Ian Ladyman on It’s All Kicking Off, the club has established a budget for both potential scenarios this summer.

How much Manchester United will spend if they win the Europa League

As stated by Ian Ladyman, Manchester United could allocate £200 million this summer contingent upon their success in the Europa League.

Conversely, should the Red Devils not secure victory in this tournament, their expenditure will be limited to £100 million.

Matheus Cunha has been associated with a move to United, and Liam Delap is also on their radar; both players may join the club regardless of the outcome in the Europa League.

“To answer your question. Somebody told me that there’s a ballpark figure of about £100m to spend for Manchester United, without getting into the Champions League. Which is why we’ve seen them dip their toe in the water for Cunha at Wolves and Delap at Ipswich,” Ladyman said.

“I think they feel they can do those deals without European football, that’s what I was told. If they do get the Champions League, you can chuck another £100m into that too, and therefore two players becomes four or five players and that’s half a team.”

Manchester United spending in recent transfer windows

It appears that Manchester United is set to invest at least £100 million this summer, which, although it may seem unusual, could indicate a relatively subdued transfer window for the club. Historically, the Red Devils have frequently exceeded £100 million in their spending during transfer windows, as evidenced by their financial records.

Furthermore, this spending capacity could potentially increase if United secures victory in the Europa League; however, given their three defeats to Tottenham this season, their prospects seem uncertain.

Ruben Amorim faces significant challenges in the upcoming transfer window, and the extent to which he can overhaul the squad will largely depend on the outcome of the Europa League final.
