‘Joke of a move’: Troy Deeney blown away by who Liverpool have been linked with signing now

Liverpool could be set for an exciting summer transfer window.

Indeed, after failing to sign both Moises Caicedo and Martin Zubimendi over the last two summer windows, the Reds should have plenty of money to spend this summer.

Liverpool bid £111m for Caicedo two years ago, and that cash still hasn’t been spent.

Liverpool could be set to make a splash this summer, and they’ve been linked with some exciting potential additions.

Speaking on The Stomping Ground, Troy Deeney has been discussing Liverpool’s links to Isak, and he’s very excited by the idea of that move.

Deeney spoke about how good Liverpool have been this season and how they can kick on next year.

The pundit says that Liverpool could have a big window, claiming that Isak would be a ‘joke’ of a signing could the Reds get this deal over the line.

Arsenal also want Isak, so this won’t be an easy deal to get done.

“I think you have to be exceptional to win the league. Imagine how scary it must be, if we’re not saying they’re any good and they’ve lost one game. Imagine what they will do next year when they add?” Deeney said.

“They’ve only bought Chiesa this season. They’ve kept Salah and kept Van Dijk, people are talking about Trent staying, I think he’s going. They can go and spend money now, they’re linked with Isak, imagine if they get Isak? That’s a joke of a move.”

Liverpool wanted Alexander Isak years ago
Liverpool will push to sign Isak this summer, but they will have to fork out a record fee for the striker should they wish to get this deal done.

Isak has been valued at £200m in some circles, and while he may not actually cost that much, he’ll surely be north of that £100m mark.

Liverpool could’ve avoided this situation years ago as the Reds had the chance to sign Isak back in 2022, via Sky Sports.

“Whether Liverpool are willing to part with that amount of money [£100-150m] for a new striker remains to be seen and they will face competition from other clubs if a potential deal is in the offing,” Sky reported.

“But Liverpool’s recruitment team wanted to sign Isak when Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders pushed instead for Nunez in 2022.”

Of course, Isak would end up at Newcastle that summer, while Nunez headed to Liverpool, and it’s fair to say that both players have had differing fortunes since then.

Isak might be the best striker in the world right now, and if Liverpool can get this deal done over the summer, Arne Slot’s side could be nothing short of unstoppable next season.
