Exclusive: What Andrea Berta is now saying about Viktor Gyokeres behind the scenes at Arsenal

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is becoming increasingly keen on signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, TBR Football can exclusively reveal.

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer and Berta has stepped up the club’s efforts to find the right candidate since his own appointment.

Berta has been championing Gyokeres for some time now, a striker who was on his radar whilst he was still working at Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal would love to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in an ideal world but that could ultimately be a fruitless chase, explaining why Berta is sifting through alternatives.

Newcastle plan to convince Isak to stay and their efforts in doing so will certainly be helped by the club’s recent push for a Champions League spot.

Andrea Berta tips Viktor Gyokeres to make immediate Arsenal impact
That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Berta now firmly believes that Gyokeres could be an instant starter for Arsenal, a striker who is ready to plug in and play.

Of late, Arsenal have continued to do their work on Gyokeres and they have been conducting background checks, as they do on all major targets.

And those reports on Gyokeres have all been ‘glowing’ as a person and character, aside from his talent on the pitch which Arsenal are already convinced about.

Gyokeres is attracted to Arsenal’s project and both Berta and Arteta really like the striker.

Arsenal are interested in the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Liam Delap and even Hugo Ekitike but there are some doubts about whether these youngster strikers would be ready from the off.

Arsenal want a ‘win now’ addition and Berta believes that a striker might be the ‘final piece’ of the jigsaw.

Dusan Vlahovic is still on Arsenal’s radar
Of course, on the topic of strikers who could be ready to make an impact at the Emirates immediately, Dusan Vlahovic’s name still can’t be ruled out.

Arsenal are still big fans of the Juventus forward and he would be a cheaper option than Gyokeres, perhaps allowing Berta more wriggle room in pursuit of additional targets.

Vlahovic is back starting regularly for Juventus but a new contract for the Serbia international is still no closer.

Vlahovic could cost around £25m for Premier League clubs this summer, a bargain price when it’s considered that Juventus paid more than double that for the striker in 2022.

A big summer for Berta and Arteta, and one that the club seem determined to get right.
